WBA vs. West Ham United: Final score 0-0, Baggies’ goalless streak continues

Laurence Griffiths

The wheels continue to fall off the West Bromwich Albion wagon as Steve Clark's side was held to a goalless draw by West Ham United. With a place in the top five within reach after Everton failed to dispatch Stoke at City the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, the Baggies needed to break their long goalless streak (now three games) and come away with three points, but the visitors and the woodwork conspired to thwart them.

It wasn't a great match, with West Ham missing the drive provided by Mohamed Diame -- the club is now so hit by injury that they were only able to field six substitutes -- and West Brom continuing to show no signs whatsoever of a cutting edge. The best chances both came in the second half, whine James Morrison volleying off the crossbar in early going before heading onto the woodwork in the 74th minute.

At the other end, Carlton Cole came close to pulling off some surprise heroics very late on as he tested Boaz Myhill with an injury-time snapshot, but the goalkeeper's scrambled save prevented the match from ending with dramatics it certainly didn't deserve.

It was previously reported that Spieth, Thomas and Fowler all went in on Leeds United. That does not appear to be entirely the case.
