“We’re not racist, but” always leads to a horribly racist statement

Hulk and Axel Witsel, who are darker-skinned than most of Zenit’s players, haven’t changed the minds of their most extreme supporters.

This summer, Zenit St. Petersburg signed Hulk and Axel Witsel, who are of mixed ethnicity. They are among the darkest-skinned players who have ever suited up for the club, and they are not liked by all supporters.

Presented without any further commentary, a quote from a letter sent by Landscrona, the largest supporters group for Zenit St. Petersburg, to the club itself. Via The Guardian:

“We’re not racists but we see the absence of black players at Zenit as an important tradition.”
