Swansea vs. Norwich: Final score 3-4 after topsy-turvy match

Swansea City were beaten by Norwich in a 4-3 thriller at the Liberty Stadium, a match which defied expectations in almost every way. Although Norwich are on an excellent unbeaten run, they're not exactly known for their scoring exploits, and a trip to Wales generally doesn't result in a mountain of goals for either side... except for today, apparently.

The Canaries had already hit the post before opening their tally 16 minutes in through Steven Whitaker, who finished smartly past Gerhard Tremmel after running virtually unchallenged through the hosts' back line and cutting in to shoot from ten yards. Danny Graham did hit the bar in reply, but it was Norwich who struck next, first via Sebastian Bassong when he nodded in a cross past Tremmel at the near post and then through Grant Holt to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at half time.

At that point, the game should have been well and truly over. But Swansea had other plans. After getting lucky when Bradley Johnson’s volleyed effort cannoned off the crossbar, the hosts cut the deficit to two when Michu fired a low cross past John Ruddy and in with 51 minute played. And then, five minutes later, a poor clearance allowed Jonathan de Guzman to volley in at the near post to make it 3-2.

Comeback on? Not so fast, but it was a closely run thing. Graham was denied by a desperate block from Javier Garrido, and Etey Shecter had a strike ruled out for offside as the Swans scrambled desperately for an equaliser. As fate would have it, they'd score their third in injury time when Michu headed in a cross -- but by then Robert Snodgrass had already handed Norwich their fourth with a superbly taken free kick.

Not a bad game, this one.
