John Terry Injury: Chelsea Defender Set To Miss Up To 2 Months

Instead of missing just Chelsea’s first leg against Napoli, John Terry is set to undergo surgery on his injured knee, according to reports at The Guardian. Along with both legs of the Champions League tie against Napoli, Terry could miss crucial fixtures against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, and if he is out for two months, he will be doubtful for matches against fellow Champions League contenders Newcastle United and Arsenal.

Andre Villas-Boas can replace the Chelsea captain with either Gary Cahill or Branislav Ivanovic. If Ivanovic plays centre back, that weakens Chelsea at right back, so Cahill and David Luiz will likely be the centre back pair of choice. While Terry has faced off the pitch scandals, he has continued to be a very good defender, and is far better than Cahill, despite criticism over his pace. He’s also a far better passer than Gary Cahill, another attribute that is underrated.

Terry will also miss England’s friendly against the Netherlands next week.
