Bayern Munich and Schalke can potentially eliminate each other from title contention this weekend. On Friday, Gladbach and Hamburg battled it out to a 1-1 draw.
Borussia Monchengladbach Vs. Hamburg, 2012 Bundesliga: Hamburg Hold Gladbach To Draw
Borussia Monchengladbach suffered a big blow in their quest to chase down Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, drawing 1-1 to Hamburg at home. The visitors spent much of their time on the defensive, a strategy designed to force Gladbach to play outside their comfort level as they were unable to unleash the vicious counterattack that’s served them so well this season. The home side aren’t completely incapable of buildup play, however, and they made the most of their long spells of possession just before halftime, netting via the head of Mike Hanke to make it 1-0.
Hamburg responded positively, coming out of their shell after the break and quickly forcing an equalising goal through Tolgay Arslan from close range in the 56th minute. From then on, the match was fairly even, with the visitors applying plenty of pressure - although it was Gladbach who nearly had the last laugh as Juan Arango rose, unmarked, from an injury time corner... only to miss a gaping net and ensure the game finished at 1-1.
