Arsenal Fans React Positively To Rosicky’s New Deal

Arsenal fans have reacted well to the news that Czech international midfielder Tomas Rosicky has signed a new contract with the club. SB Nation’s own Arsenal blog “The Short Fuse” had some interesting comments on the deal, which was officially signed this morning;

He’s shown pace, passing ability and vision, and perhaps most importantly a dogged determination to get the ball from opponents. He’s been a big part of the reason why Arsenal’s pressing defense has been effective of late, and he isn’t showing too many signs of age. His long injuries may actually help there - despite the fact that obviously he was hurt, while not playing he avoided certain wear and tear he might have suffered if he hadn’t been hurt.

It’s something that had never crossed my mind really that having such horrendous luck with injuries since he arrived in London in 2006 may actually be working in his favor, not to mention it’s quite a turn around for a player who was much maligned in the early part of the 2011/12 season by Arsenal fans.

A more cynical eye on the deal would suggest that perhaps Arsenal, known for their lack of big spending, have all but given up on more talented, younger players who could play in Rosicky’s role, such as Lille’s Eden Hazard or Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Goetze, who have both been heavily linked with the Gunners, but would also cost quite a pretty penny.

One thing’s for sure though, and that’s that Rosicky has always had an abundance of talent, and if the Arsenal fans and Arsene Wenger are correct in their belief that this current run of good form is here to stay, then the deal makes good sense on all fronts.
