Monarcas Morelia are in some trouble. They’re doing just fine in the league, where they are joint-top of the table, but it looks like their time in the CONCACAF Champions League is about to come to a close. Morelia head to the second leg of their quarterfinal tie with Monterrey two goals down and having surrendered three at home, meaning they will need at least three goals to have a chance at advancing.
Monterrey Vs. Monarcas Morelia, 2012 CONCACAF Champions League: Morelia Facing A Big Hole
Monterrey look set to advance to the semifinals as they take a 3-1 lead to the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Morelia.

Exactly how Morelia are going to manage that is unclear. Scoring three goals will be tough, but almost as tough will be keeping Monterrey from putting a couple goals of their own. After a bright start in the first leg they were beaten badly and exposed at the back. Humberto Suazo caused Morelia all kinds of problems and that might only get worse in Monterrey, especially with Morelia desperate to get bodies forward in search of goals.
It is not as if success in the Champions League is a new thing for Monterrey anyways. They are the defending champions and looked poised to make another run this season. They did the hard part in getting the 3-1 at Morelia, especially the three away goals, and just have to not screw it up too badly at home. Low bar, book Monterrey’s spot in the semifinals and the death of Morelia’s Champions League dreams.
