Chelsea Vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 2012 Premier League: Fulltime, Both Sides Hit Woodwork In Scoreless Match

At halftime both managers must have told their players to be a bit better, because the second half featured much more action than the first half. Both teams hit the bar and missed very good chances, though the best went to Emmanuel Adebayor. He was set up by a great chipped pass from Luka Modric over the Chelsea defence, which he controlled and went past Petr Cech. The touch, though, took him wide, and his shot wasn't powerful enough, and Gary Cahill made a superb block to deny the shot going into the empty Chelsea net. From that corner, Gareth Bale hit the bar, before Adebayor headed over from 2 yards out.

Spurs were the better team in the second half, with Bale slipping in Kyle Walker on the right, who's shot swerved into the side netting. Chelsea, though, had their moments, and Juan Mata hit the post with a fantastic free kick, with Brad Friedel stranded. Didier Drogba set up Daniel Sturridge with a header, but the Englishman, who had an awful game, shanked his shot well wide of Brad Friedel's post. Both Fernando Torres and Louis Saha came on, but neither had a major impact on the game.

In stoppage time, Gareth Bale drove at David Luiz, who had come at right back, and got past him, but his shot was blocked again by the outstanding Gary Cahill. Spurs had one more chance after David Luiz fouled Adebayor in the last minute of injury time. Gareth Bale's free kick dipped just before it reached Cech, forcing the Chelsea keeper to parry wide.

Spurs will be happier with the draw, as it holds their lead over Chelsea for 4th place to 5 points, and, having gotten one of their few remaining hard games out of the way, they should be favourites to finish in the Champions League places.
