After the disastrous start to Inter Milan's season under Gian Piero Gasperini, Inter Milan hired former Juventus, Roma and Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri to rescue their season. While Ranieri does not have a lot of silverware on his resume, he does have a history of getting good teams to play to their talent level and finish near the top of the league. He was unable to do that at Inter, and he has been fired after six months in charge.

Ranieri had a record of 16 wins, 13 losses and five draws in his tenure as Inter manager and was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Marseille in the Round of 16. Inter lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Juventus in the Derby d’Italia over the weekend, and that result saw the Nerazzurri slip down to eighth place in the Serie A table. Inter are currently seven points out of Europa League and 10 points out of a Champions League place.
Inter team president Massimo Moratti had previously claimed that Ranieri would probably stay until the end of the season, but he apparently had a sudden change of heart.
