Chris Simms has now officially stepped away from playing football and stepped into the coaching profession. The former NFL quarterback has been hired by the New England Patriots as a coaching assistant. His exact job title and job description isn't clear yet, but at just 31-years-old, any NFL coaching job represents a good start to a second career for Simms.
Former NFL QB Chris Simms Hired To Patriots Coaching Staff
The New England Patriots have hired former NFL QB Chris Simms as an assistant coach.

Simms played in 23 NFL games during his career, and he was briefly the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005. In 2006, he suffered a ruptured spleen during a game and continued to play before he was taken to a hospital post-game. He would only make three more appearances in the NFL after that game.
While current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the head coach of the Denver Broncos, Simms was a backup quarterback on the team. He was last signed to an NFL roster in 2010 and last appeared in a game in 2009.
