CONCACAF Champions League 2012, Quarterfinal First Legs: Three MLS, Four FMF Teams Remain

CONCACAF Champions League resumes on Tuesday with the first legs of the quarterfinals.

The Major League Soccer season returns over the weekend, but three MLS clubs are in action before their regular season openers, as they continue their quest to win a continental championship. Unlike previous seasons, when the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals were contested in February and completed before the MLS season started, there will be quarterfinal games on either side of an MLS game. Meanwhile, the five non-MLS teams remaining are all in mid-season.

Monarcas Morelia and Monterrey, two of the top teams in Mexico, contest the first quarterfinal on Tuesday night. Monterrey are the reigning champions of the competition, while Morelia are currently top of the table in the Clausura. There are two games on Wednesday, with Toronto FC and LA Galaxy contesting the quarterfinals' only all-MLS tie in the early game. Seattle Sounders host Santos Laguna in the late game. A shaky Pumas UNAM team in transition faces a tough test in Thursday's game, where they will only be marginal favorites against Isidro Metapan, the reigning champions of Honduras.
