Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany could miss up to two weeks following a calf injury sustained in the 1-0 Europa League defeat to Sporting Lisbon on Thursday evening. The towering defender, who's been one of City's leading lights this year hobbled off at Estadio Jose Alavalde after only seven minutes, to be replaced by Joleon Lescott.

Following the game manager Roberto Mancini said of the Belgian;

I hope he can recover in 10 days, two weeks maximum. We will see how it is in another one or two days.

Blues fans will wait anxiously on further developments with Kompany's injury, as if it is the two weeks speculated by Mancini he would miss crucial games against Swansea City this Sunday, the return leg with Sporting Lisbon on March 15th, and leave him touch-and-go for the crucial midweek clash with Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on March 21st. The away game with Stoke City on March 24th could be a more likely return date for the defender.

During this time City will be down to their bare bones at the back, relying on the fitness and form of Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure to see them through. Otherwise much maligned youngster Stefan Savic could end up being called upon as the club look to hang on to a slender lead at the top of the Premier League.
