FC Köln announced today that manager Stale Solbakken has been sacked effective immediately. The club’s board has appointed former manager Frank Schaefer to take over the side until the end of the season.
FC Köln Sack Manager Stale Solbakken
FC Köln have sacked manager Stale Solbakken and replaced him with Frank Schaeffer.

Club president Dr. Werner Wolf said: “Maintaining our Bundesliga status is the highest priority for 1. FC Köln this season. We need to focus single-mindedly on that objective. After the game against Mainz, Stale Solbakken’s dismissal is a regrettable, but unavoidable step.”
The move comes as no real surprise with Köln in free fall mode having only picked up one win in their last ten matches. With only four matches remaining in the season, they sit in 16th place on 29 points. Augsburg are just above them on 30 points.
Frank Schaefer is not a stranger to the club. He took over the club in October 2010 but abruptly resigned in April 2011 during the middle of a relegation battle.
