Independiente and Racing Club are, once again, very disappointing. Both players have a solid mix of young stars and veteran players. They have great foreign and domestic talent. They have great fans. And those great fans have watched a lot of mediocre football this season. Of course, that won’t do anything to minimize the intensity of the Clasico Avellaneda, which takes place this weekend. Because River Plate are in the second division, the Clasico between Racing and Independiente is easily the biggest of the season.
Argentine Primera 2012, Week 10 Preview And Fixtures: Clasico Avellaneda, And Some Other Matches
Week 10 in Argentina lacks marquee matches that matter in the standings, but it does feature one very intense Clasico.

As fun as that will be for fans of those two teams and people that really enjoy violence, there are matches in Argentina that have a lot more to do with who will win the title and who will get relegated. Estudiantes La Plata host Colon on Friday, and Colon are very poor on the road. Estudiantes currently sit five points behind Boca Juniors, and they’re in need of a win to keep themselves in the title race.
After the Clasico Avellaneda, a desperate (and almost mathematically relegated) Olimpo side that needs to start winning fast hosts All Boys, who are just above the drop zone. Relegation threatened San Lorenzo hosts Godoy Cruz on Saturday as well, while another relegation threatened team, San Martin, hosts title contenders Velez Sarsfield.
The biggest non-clasico of the week is Sunday’s night cap. Tigre, who are currently in 19th place in the coefficients and close to climbing out of the automatic relegation place, host Boca Juniors. Tigre were keeping pace with Boca at the top of the table to start the season, but they have lost three consecutive league matches. A home win would pull them closer to 18th place and to within three points of Boca on top of the table.
