Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has been named Footballer Of The Year at the prestigious Football Writers Awards, just two days after picking up the same title from the Professional Footballers Association. The Dutchman's prolific form this season, in which he has hit 34 goals in all competitions and helped reignite Arsenal's surge up the table after a stuttering start, earned him his second gong in as many days.

The Football Writers Association have named Robin Van Persie as the Footballer Of The Year, just days after the Dutchman claimed a similar award from the PFA.

Van Persie picked up the award after dominating the voting, comfortably ahead of 2010 winner Wayne Rooney, and fellow United teammate Paul Scholes who was third in the voting after an incredible comeback from retirement. USA international Clint Dempsey was also recognized for his achievements and finished in fourth position.
The 28-year old becomes only the third Dutchman to win the ward too, following in the footsteps of Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp in 2008, and Ipswich Town midfielder Frans Thijssen in 1981. He is also the first Arsenal player to win the award since Thierry Henry in 2006.
Football Writers Association Chairman, Steve Bates, said of Van Persie’s triumph;
Robin was the overwhelming choice of our members this season and deservedly so after a magnificent campaign for Arsenal. The quality of his goals, attacking movement and consistency in a turbulent season for The Gunners has been eye-catching.
Van Persie is certainly a worthy winner, and hats off to him for a truly incredible season leading the line at the Emirates. Not that we get one, but he’d have got my vote too.
