Bayern Munich and Mario Gomez have announced a contract extension that will keep the star forward at the club until the end of the 2016 season. His current contract was set to expire at the end of next season.
Mario Gomez, Bayern Munich Agree On Extension
Mario Gomez has signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich until 2016.

The club’s official statement quotes Gomez:
“As I’ve always said, FC Bayern is a magnificent club, where I feel good and where I believe I have the best sporting perspective, so I’m delighted we’ve agreed a contract extension. I’m convinced we’re set for great things here in the years to come. I want to play my part in that.”
Gomez, 26, currently sits on 23 goals scored in the league this season and is level with Schalke's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He has scored a total of 51 Bundesliga goals in the last 2 seasons, and he still has 5 matches remaining to add to it. Only Barcelona's Lionel Messi has scored more goals in the Champions League than the German international.
With Gomez locked into a long-term contract, Bayern can now officially turn their sights on Arjen Robben. The Dutch winger is the final holdout to extending his stay among the star players in Munich. Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller, and Franck Ribery have already signed extensions until at least 2015.
