Boca Juniors and Velez Sarsfield both dropped points in Week 13 of the Argentine Primera season, and it’s tough to blame them for doing it. Both teams had not only Copa Libertadores to look forward to, but each other to look forward to. Both teams advanced in Copa and can now set their sights on each other in their massive Week 14 clash.

Velez and Boca are the clear favorites to win the title and whoever wins their clash on Sunday will become the favorite, but they do not necessarily control their own destinies. Because they dropped points last week, all of Newell’s Old Boys, Tigre and Arsenal de Sarandi are involved in the title race.

Arsenal play the first match of the round, away to San Martin on Friday afternoon. Arsenal have been brilliant at home, but average on the road this season, and they’ll be up against a team desperate to avoid the relegation playoff places. San Martin are missing Raul Quiroga through a serious knee injury while one of Arsenal’s top scoring threats, Luciano Leguizamon, recently picked up an injury of his own.

Tigre are fighting the drop in addition to fighting for the title, so not only do they need to take something like 10 points from 12 to win the title, they might need to do the same just to get to a relegation playoff. They face a tough match on Sunday away to Colon. Newell’s are favored in their match, at home to Union on Sunday.
