Joey Barton won't be playing football for a while. The Queens Park Rangers captain has been suspended for twelve matches following his actions during the final match of the season which save him elbow Carlos Tevez in the face, kick Sergio Aguero for no reason whatsoever and then attempt to headbutt Vincent Kompany. Barton accepted the first two violent conduct charges but appealed against the third, but said appeal has been dismissed by the FA:

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton is facing a lengthy ban after being hit with two violent conduct charges and a red card suspension for his actions against Manchester City.
An independent Regulatory Commission has today [Wednesday 23 May 2012] dealt with two charges of violent conduct against Joey Barton, arising from the game against Manchester City, resulting in an eight-match suspension and £75,000 fine for the Queens Park Rangers midfielder.
This eight-match suspension is to run consecutively to the four-game suspension Barton was already given for his dismissal in the fixture, making a total of 12 matches.
The fact that Barton took to Twitter after the match claiming he was attempting to spark an incident by provoking City players into retaliating can hardly have been beneficial to his appeal. The midfielder is now set to miss almost one third of the 2012/13 season, and it remains to be seen what exactly QPR do with him.
