The DFB tribunal have ruled that the promotion/relegation playoff between Hertha Berlin and Fortuna Düsseldorf will not be replayed, and Düsseldorf are officially promoted to the Bundesliga following their 4-3 aggregate win.
Hertha Berlin’s Final Appeal Rejected, Fortuna Düsseldorf Officially Promoted
The hearing lasted for over 10 hours and was chaired by the DFB’s chief legal adviser Goetz Eilers. Over 16 witnesses were called to testify in front of the tribunal including referee Wolfgang Stark and Ralf Ziewer of the DFB security department.
The court agreed that Stark made the correct decision in restarting the match. Stark told the tribunal, “If our security was not guaranteed, I would have canceled the match.”
Hertha have admitted that they will accept the decision of this tribunal and not pursue their appeal any further. They do have the right to appeal this tribunal’s decision to the DFB’s Court of Arbitration or the international Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
Let’s hope Hertha BSC stick to their word and do not appeal this further, so that the Bundesliga can move forward this summer for next season.
