Augsburg Manager Jos Luhukay Resigns
Augsburg manager Jos Luhukay has resigned as manager following the club’s final match of the season.

“This was an incredibly tough decision to take, maybe the toughest of my career as a coach. I’ve had three wonderful and above all successful years at FC Augsburg and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow coaches, my players, the entire backroom staff and everyone else who works for the club for all the support. We’ve created something unique here over the past few years and laid the foundations for the future success of FC Augsburg.”
Luhukay has been wildly successful since becoming the manager. His first objective when taking over the club in the spring of 2009 was to avoid relegation, and he did. The club advanced to the semifinals of the 2009-2010 DFB Pokal and finished third in the 2.Bundesliga standings but lost the relegation playoff against Nürnberg. Last season they finished second in the 2.Bundesliga and won automatic promotion to the Bundesliga. This season has seen it’s fair share of ups and downs for Augsburg, but they managed to secure survival in the Bundesliga against the odds.
When the season began, Augsburg was expected to be relegated. They were almost a sure thing for the drop. A large amount of credit must go to Augsburg’s president Walther Seinsch who never faltered in his support of Luhukay even when the club put together separate eight and six match winless runs. Said Seinsch of Luhukay, “The amazing successes in the last three years are firmly attached to his name,. We wish him all the very best and hope to see him again in the Bundesliga. Jos Luhukay is always welcome back at Augsburg.”
