Montreal Impact Vs. Toronto FC, 2012 MLS: Reds Rout Impact In Battle For BMO

Between the way Toronto FC started the season and the way the Montreal Impact played on Wednesday night, BMO might want to take their name off of both teams' jerseys. The people of Montreal clearly weren't too excited to see the debut of Designated Player Marco di Vaio as just 14,412 showed up to Stade Saputo. And they were lucky that they stayed away, because Toronto whipped up to claim a 3-0 win over their kind-of rivals.

Montreal may have had the possession, but they weren't ever particularly dangerous and their shots were usually speculative. At no point did Milos Kocic look concerned and, in the second half, the Reds put them away.

The scoring started with Torsten Frings, who got some help from Donovan Ricketts. A shoddy wall allowed Frings' free kick to get to the goal. Still, it shouldn't have been a problem for Ricketts since it was right at him, even if it was scorched. But Ricketts somehow let it get through his hands and Toronto was in front.

The defense didn't do Ricketts any favors on Toronto's second goal. After a giveaway, Nick Soolsma fed Ryan Johnson at the top of the box. The Montreal defense then let him take several touches before turning and knocking the ball into the top corner, doubling the Toronto lead.

Finally, the Montreal defense just gave up. Ashtone Morgan and Johnson combined down the left to get Morgan free by the end line. Apparently at that point the Impact decided that defending wasn't a thing anymore, leaving Danny Koevermans wide open in front of goal to easily tap in Morgan's cross and Toronto were 3-0 winners.
