D.C. United Re-Sign Branko Boskovic, No Longer A Designated Player

The saga of Branko Boskovic has taken another interesting turn. Coming off a pair of highly disappointing seasons and earning a Designated Players' wage, Boskovic has re-signed with D.C. United. The twist is that, after being hurt for much of the previous two seasons, Boskovic has agreed to re-sign as something less than a DP.

“Branko was very professional throughout this whole process,” D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper said in a team release. “It never affected his play. This is a win-win for everybody. He is an important part of our team and we are thrilled that this is now finished and we can move forward.”

Until this year, Boskovic had been one of the more disappointing DP signings in league history. He has yet to score a single goal, but had also been limited to 17 appearances during his first two seasons. This year, he has been much better, providing some good stability mostly off the bench and chipping in with three assists as United has been among the top teams in the league all year.

“I’m staying because this team is really good and we have a chance to be the best in MLS. I want to help the team make the playoffs and win a championship,” Boskovic said.
