Things just continue to get worse for England, who learned on Sunday that Gary Cahill would miss Euro 2012 with a broken jaw. The defender was injured in Saturday's friendly against Belgium when Dries Mertens pushed him into Joe Hart, leaving him with fractures on both sides of his jaw. Martin Kelly has been called up to take his place.
Gary Cahill Ruled Out Of Euro 2012 With Broken Jaw
England will be without Gary Cahill for Euro after the defender broke his jaw in Saturday’s friendly against Belgium.

The worst part for England and Cahill is that the injury was wholly unnecessary. Merten’s shove was a silly challenge, especially in a friendly, and now leaves Cahill with a broken jaw and England short a defender. At least Mertens did apologize, though.
“I sincerely apologize for the harm I’ve cost to Cahill. When in the heat of the moment, you often don’t think about the consequences. My thoughts go out to him and I hope he recovers well!”
The injury to Cahill comes in the same week that Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry were ruled out of the tournament through injury. Expectations were already low for England, but now they are especially low, and just making it out of Group D, which includes France, Sweden and Ukraine, would be a nice accomplishment.
England did receive a bit of good news on Saturday as scans on John Terry's hamstring have come back all clear. He will be fit to train and play in England's June 11 Euro opener against France, where he will not be more heavily depended upon than ever before without Cahill to partner him.
