The man popularly known as the "Swiss Ronaldinho" is headed back to Switzerland. The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Thursday that midfielder Davide Chiumiento was being transferred to FC Zurich for an undisclosed fee.

"Davide has been a very good player and ambassador for Whitecaps FC during his time with the club," Whitecapshead coach Martin Rennie said in a team statement. "This is a great opportunity for him to be closer to his family while continuing his soccer career. We would like to thank Davide for all of his contributions to the club and wish him the best of luck in the future."
Chiumiento, while showing flashes of brilliance, never was able to show a sustained level of production during his 42 MLS appearances. Much was expected of him coming off a year in which he registered two goals and nine assists, but had just five assists at the time of the transfer and seemed to be the odd man out with the addition of new Designated Player Barry Robson. He certainly wasn't a bad player, but if the Whitecaps any kind of significant transfer fee, it was probably a deal that they could afford to make.
