Real Madrid Buys Luka Modric From Tottenham, So Says Elaborate Hoax

The last time we checked in on nerds taking over the soccer world, Robin van Persie's official site was being hacked. This time around the nerds went at Arsenal's North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Somebody managed to create a fake release that said Luka Modric had been sold to Real Madrid (that's the easy part) and seamlessly integrate it onto a page that looked identical to Spurs' official website (that's the hard part). The links on the fake page even went directly to the official site, making it seem even more realistic. Unsurprisingly, many people believed the hoax to be real and began spreading the "news" that Modric had been sold around.

Obviously, Modric has not been sold (at least not yet), but that looks mighty official. And if Spurs were offered €35 million plus Nuri Sahin they would pull the trigger in a heartbeat, but they have not. Modric is still a Spurs player, no matter what one truly tremendous hoax says.

This has been another edition of Nerds Rule the World. Check in next time when we speak with the robot that retrieved Sergio Ramos' Champions League penalty kick from Jupiter.
