Wolfsburg has reached an agreement with Werder Bremen for the transfer of defender Naldo. The two clubs did not release the transfer fee, but Kicker estimates that it was around €5 million. He passed a medical to make the move official on Thursday.

Naldo, 29, has been in Bremen since the summer of 2005 when he joined from Brazilian side Juventude. Since that time, he has appeared in 173 matches and scored 22 goals including a goal in the 2009 UEFA Cup Final.

“It was not an easy decision to take. It is really hard to leave Bremen. I had a lot of success with Werder and I grew fond of the fans and the club,” Naldo said. “But the offer from Wolfsburg was really very good. I now have the opportunity to remain in the Bundesliga and that was important to me and my family.”

Felix Magath is continuing his plans on building the world’s largest football team with Naldo being the 44th player in the squad. This doesn’t include the nine players already out on loan. Though, the signing of Naldo may do more than just enhance last season’s fourth-worst defense. Naldo was very close with Wolfsburg’s Diego when the two were at Bremen together. If Naldo’s presence can have some sort of calming effect on Diego, Magath may have just completed an ingenious signing.
