Bayern Munich Lose David Alaba And Rafinha To Injury

Bayern Munich have lost David Alaba and Rafinha for several weeks after suffering injuries in the club’s preseason friendly against Napoli on Friday. Both players will remain in Munich and not join the team on the tour of China this week. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm are also not making the trip.

Alaba, 20, scored Bayern’s opening goal in the match, but he was shortly subbed off after suffering a knock to his left foot. The initial diagnosis on the Austrian Footballer of the Year is a stress fracture, and he is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks. Additional scans will be completed on Monday morning to determine if surgery is necessary.

Rafinha, 26, rolled over his ankle just before halftime and suffered a torn ligament. Surgery will not be necessary for the right back, and he is expected to return in four or five weeks.

Bayern have spent the last week in Trentino, Italy, in preparation for the upcoming season. All of the revenue generated from the match against Napoli was donated to the victims of the earthquake that struck the region in May. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge presented an additional check to the relief fund in the amount of €100,000.
