The German Football Association (DFB) announced today that Robin Dutt has been named the federation’s new sporting director on a four year contract. He begins his new job on August 1, 2012.

Dutt, 47, will be responsible for the talent development program for the entire federation and the further development of coaches. He takes over the position vacated earlier this summer when Matthias Sammer was resigned to take the same position at Bayern Munich.

“To take on this exciting challenge here with the DFB carries a very special significance, it feels great to be responsible in this function.” Dutt continued, “I look forward to working together with Joachim Löw as well as the other DFB coaches. Working together with the best and brightest talents, we will push German football to yet another level.”

Germany manager Joachim Löw said on Dutt's appointment, "The DFB acted swiftly and found a highly competent solution. That was handled perfectly, now I'm looking forward to our future cooperation."

Dutt’s last position was as the manager at Bayer Leverkusen. He was sacked after less than one season for failing to build upon the club’s second place finish the previous season. At the time of his sacking, Leverkusen were in sixth place.
