The 2016 Copa America will be played in the United States, according to a report at Goal.com. Although the South American tournament was not originally scheduled to be played that year and Chile is hosting the 2015 edition, a “special edition” will be played to commemorate its 100th anniversary.

The president of the Mexican Federation, Justino Compean, said the tournament was originally being considered for Mexico, but that economic concerns made the United States a more palatable host.

The report also suggests that CONMEBOL is attempting to get CONCACAF clubs to participate in Copa Libertadores. MLS teams have not played CONMEBOL teams since D.C. United won the Copa Interamericana in 1998.

While no official announcement has been made, this is just the latest piece of news that suggests this tournament is imminent. The most recent report came out in January, when the president of Ecuador’s football federation suggested that the United States and Mexico were in the running to host the tournament.
