Daniel Agger has spoken out on speculation linking the Liverpool defender with moves to Manchester City and Barcelona, claiming he wants to stay at Liverpool, but admits it may not be up to him.

Manchester City are believed to have had two bids rejected already for the centre-back, but Mancini is keen to strengthen his defensive options before the new season kicks off this weekend, and having already secured the signing of Everton’s Jack Rodwell, is believed to be preparing one last bid to sign the 27-year-old. Liverpool are also thought to be keen to free up additional transfer funds to allow Brendan Rogers to strengthen other areas of his squad.

The Dane is currently away with the Denmark squad for their friendly against Slovenia on Wednesday, but told Ekstra Bladet: “That is how the club wants to do it. I would prefer to stay. I can’t imagine playing for other clubs in England. But, you never know if the club prefers to sell me.”
