The San Jose Earthquakes will break ground on their new stadium on Oct. 21, the team announced on Saturday. Although the team is reportedly still looking to find someone to buy naming rights for the stadium, this would mean that the new park should be ready in time for the 2014 season. As part of the ceremony, they are hoping to break a Guinness World Record for the largest groundbreaking in history.

“Our organization strives to be the most inclusive and community-focused professional sports organization in the country,” Earthquakes Club President Dave Kaval said in statement. “Instead of a golden shovel groundbreaking, we wanted everyone in the local community to participate equally in this historic event. The groundbreaking will be a celebration of the robust soccer lineage the Bay Area has cultivated since the original San Jose Earthquakes were founded in 1974. We hope that everyone joins us in this record attempt for a day that no one will forget.”

Details of the new stadium are still quite limited, but it is planned for 18,000 seats and feature club seats that will be at pitch level. The luxury boxes and club seats have already sold out and general seats will go on sale Oct. 23.
