In what seems to be a final effort to exorcise the memories of Peter Nowak's time as the ruler of the Philadelphia Union, the team and Jorge Perlaza have agreed to part ways it was revealed on Tuesday. The Union traded 2010 No. 1 overall draft pick Danny Mwanga to the Portland Timbers in exchange for Perlaza just about a week before Nowak was fired. It was Nowak's last significant personnel move that also included trading Sebastien Le Toux and Danny Califf earlier this year.
Philadelphia Union Cut Ties With Jorge Perlaza
Union’s decision to part ways with Jorge Perlaza means they are essentially left with nothing to show for the top pick of the 2010 SuperDraft less than two years later.
Perlaza never quite fit into the Union's plans with new head coach John Hackworth in charge. The Colombian forward made just two appearances and only one start with the Union. He also had not played since June 30.
Perlaza started reasonably well with the Timbers, scoring six goals by late August. But he went into a slump, eventually found himself coming off the bench and quickly found himself out of favor. He has not scored since Aug. 20, 2011.
