Bayern Munich have announced that Mario Gomez needs surgery on his right ankle and will miss significant time. The forward has loose bone splinters in the joint which must be removed surgically.
Mario Gomez Will Undergo Ankle Surgery
The forward will be out for an undetermined amount of time due to ankle surgery.

Sporting director Matthias Sammer told the club’s website, “He’s not in good shape. He needs surgery. After the op, we’ll find out how long he’s unavailable.”
Gomez, 27, is coming off his best ever season as a professional. He finished the year with 41 goals in 52 matches through all competitions. It did appear, however, that he let the pressure get to him in the Champions League Final against Chelsea where he missed open chance after open chance.
The forward has recently come under fire from Bayern’s president Uli Hoeneß. He criticized the forward saying that if he was truly a great player, Bayern would have already won the Champions League. Gomez was defended by Sammer through the press in the last few days.
Super Mario joins a very long list of Bayern players on the injury list. David Alaba, Rafinha, Diego Contento, and Claudio Pizarro are already missing time due to injuries. Bastian Schweinsteiger also came out of the recent match after twisting an ankle.
With Gomez’s injury, it is a good thing that Bayern went out and bought Mario Mandzukic. It looks like he’ll be starting at the beginning of the year.
