Ex-Wake Forest start Marcus Tracy will play in MLS, after all. About three seasons after he chose to play in Europe rather than test the MLS SuperDraft, Tracy has signed with MLS. Where he’ll play will be decided by a weighted lottery on Thursday, the day before the MLS roster freeze.

Marcus Tracy won the Hermann Trophy in 2008 and lead the Demon Deacons to the 2009 College Cup before signing with Danish side Aalborg BK.
Coming out of Wake Forest, Tracy was widely expected to be a Top 5 pick in the 2009 draft and could have gone as high as No. 1. He was the Hermann Trophy winner in 2008 after registering 13 goals and 10 assists and followed that up by leading the Demon Deacons to the College Cup with 11 goals and nine assists in 2009. But after he signed with Danish side Aalborg BK, he was taken with the 56th overall pick by the Houston Dynamo, who retained his MLS rights for two seasons.
Tracy only made 21 senior-team appearances, though, and scored just two goals before his 2010-11 season was cut short by injuries. His initial three-year contract ran out after last season and Aalborg made no real attempt to re-sign him.
Now a free, Tracy’s MLS team will be decided based on a weighted lottery. Each team that enters the lottery will be assigned a percentage changed, based on their most recent 34-game record with worse teams having a better chance.
