Thierry Henry Suspended One Game For ‘Violent Conduct’

The New York Red Bulls will be without their best player when they take on the New England Revolution Saturday after Thierry Henry was suspended one game for what the MLS Disciplinary Committee deemed "violent conduct that endangered the safety of another player."

The incident in question is a bit odd. In full speed, it appears that Henry may have accidentally clashed heads with Kei Kamara as the Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City were preparing for a corner kick in the 93rd minute of Wednesday's game. Upon closer inspection, though, it looks more like Henry purposefully collided with Kamara.

This is the second straight season that Henry will have been suspended following a match against Kansas City. Last October, he was suspended for a violent tackle on Roger Espinoza.

How big of a blow this is to the Red Bulls is a bit of an open question, as there was a decent chance Henry would not have played against the Revolution anyway because of the game being played on artificial turf and just a few days after he played 90 minutes.

When healthy, he’s easily been the Red Bulls’ best player, though. He has 13 goals and nine assists, which both rank among the top 10 in MLS.
