New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen will miss the rest of the 2012 season after undergoing surgery to repair his injured shoulder on Monday. The team said Nguyen is expected to be able to fully participate in training in four months, which means he should be back in time for most, if not all of next season's training camp.

A team release said the surgery was performed in order to repair "chronic instability" in his shoulder. Nguyen played all 90 minutes of the Revolution's most recent game, a 1-1 tie with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

Since coming to the Revolution in the waiver draft after being cut by the Vancouver Whitecaps before the start of the season, Nguyen has been one of the team's bright spots. He was the only player to appear in all 30 of their games up until now, contributing five goals and two assists along the way. The highlight of his season came in Week 10 when was named MLS Player of the Week for his two-goal, one-assist performance in a 4-1 win over the Whitecaps.
