New York Cosmos Will Play 2013 At Hofstra

Despite some rather massive stated goals, the Cosmos will mark their return to the NASL by playing their home games in 2013 on Long Island at Hofstra University.

Confirming rumors that have been around for several months, the New York Cosmos announced on Tuesday that they will play their 2013 home games at Hofstra University. The original Cosmos played several seasons at the Long Island school before seeing their biggest success at Giants Stadium. Although the stadium seats just 13,000 and is well removed from downtown New York City, Chairman Seamus O’Brien called it “the perfect place for us to return to the pitch.”

“Hofstra is of historical significance,” O’Brien said via phone from England. “It was [our home] the early years of the club in ‘72 and ‘73. We’re in the game to put in very deep foundations to build something this time around that won’t go away. We see that community out in Long Island as being the core of our fan base.”

The Cosmos will mark their return to professional soccer by playing in the second-division NASL in 2013. They have yet to name a general manager or a coach, which is apparently the next item on the to-do list.
