Sevilla announced they have parted ways with head coach coach Jose Miguel Gonzalez, better know as Michel, and replaced him with former Spartak Moscow and Valencia boss Unai Emery.

The club explained Michel’s sacking saying he was “dismissed due to a poor run of results”. Sevilla currently sit 12th in the La Liga table after a 2-0 loss to Valencia on Saturday. Los Rojiblancos sit in a precarious position and the next month of results could find them challenging for a European spot or fighting for their lives to avoid relegation. If there was ever a good time to make a chance, now was it.
Various reports say Emery has signed a deal that runs through June of 2014. Emery most recently coached in Russia with Spartak Moscow but was fired in late November after a rather embarrassing 5-1 defeat against Dinamo Moscow.
This marks Emery's return to Spanish football after his brief sojourn to Russia. Emry had four fairly successful years in charge of Valencia and left at the end of last season after guiding Los Che to a third place finish and their third straight birth in the Champions League. Expectations for him at Sevilla will likely be high should be get them safely through the remainder of this season. Of course, Sevilla's financial struggles could play a part in how successful he'll ultimately be able to be.
Emery will jump right in with the club taking over training on Tuesday and selecting the squad to face Real Zaragoza in Sevilla's Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg match on Wednesday.
