Paul ThomasA chance to host Chelsea provided a big incentive for both clubs in this tie, and it produced a great game. Paul Hayes gave the Bees the lead, before both sides hit the woodwork. Brentford were all over the visitors, but Paul Smith had the game of his life in goal, and saved a penalty from Harry Forrester in the second half. Barry Orr managed to equalise for Southend, but Clayton Donaldson bundled in the winner for the hosts.

Christopher LeeThe good games come on Wednesday, when Swansea head to the Emirates to take on Arsenal, while Manchester United host West Ham. Both get to keep half the gate from their road trips, which might give them each an extra £1-2m to spend in the January transfer window. Good for them!
