Loïc Rémy joins Queens Park Rangers for a record fee

QPR announced today they’ve completed the signing of striker Loïc Rémy from Marseille for a club record transfer fee.

The news was posted on the club’s website and head coach Harry Redknapp offered a line that looks to have been pulled from a list of response options from Football Manager.

“I’m delighted to bring him in -- he’s a great buy for us”

The 26-year-old French international has signed a four-and-half-year deal with QPR which honestly feels a bit like him traveling back in time and purchasing a first class cabin on the Titantic just to see what it feels like to be on a sinking ship. Then again, recent results from QPR combined with the addition of Remy and the potential signing of Yann M’Vila could be enough to turn things around at Loftus Road.

The actual record fee was not disclosed but various reports but it the range of £8m.

Rémy will be eligible for selection on Saturday as QPR faces West Ham assuming their are no issues with the paperwork. He offered a few thoughts on the move in an interview with the club’s website saying he’s confident he can adapt his game to the Premier League.

”I want to develop my game here. This season the objective is to stay up but beyond that we have greater objectives.

”After seven years in France, this is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge in the Premier League -- the best League in the world.

“I am confident I can adapt to the Premier League. My main characteristics have taken me to the level I am at today but I am keen to keep improving in the Premier League.”

There’s also the possibility that this is a genius move by Rémy to become a free agent at the end of the season should his contract have a relegation release clause (and if it doesn’t he should smack his agent over the head).

Or perhaps I’m being too cynical.
