In a move that is either some kind of negotiating maneuver or borderline insanity, Barcelona goalkeeper Víctor Valdés has told the team that he will not renew his contract after it expires in 2014. Basically, it looks like the 31-year-old goalkeeper will not be returning to the Camp Nou after next season.

According to a report from the Spanish news agency EFE, Valdés’ representatives have informed the club of their client’s “irrevocable decision to not to renew his contract, thus avoiding discussing future wage issues”.
I guess that’s pretty clear.
Barcelona officials have apparently been holding talks with Valdés’ agents as recently as Thursday as the club was hoping to persuade Valdés to extend his contract with Barca, a club his been a part of his entire career. Valdés began playing professionally in 2000 with Barcelona C.
Valdés’ contract is officially up on June 30th, 2014 and has made statements recently about a desire to experience other cultures, a potential hint at a move abroad.
Barcelona have yet to publicly respond to the report but if they are convinced that Valdés wants to leave, they’ll have to decide whether or not to try and move the goalkeeper this summer to avoid letting him leave on a free. If that happens, the club will have to decide whether to hands the reigns over to 37-year-old backup José Manuel Pinto or bring in a new number one keeper.
