Sandro out for season after knee surgery

Clive Rose

Hey Tottenham Hotspur fans! Did you want some dreadful news? Well, no. You probably didn't. But you're already reading this so you might as well continue: The club has confirmed that midfielder Sandro will be out for the season after undergoing surgery to repair his right knee.

Sandro had contrived to tear both the anterior cruciate ligament and his lateral meniscus in the 0-0 draw against Queens Park Rangers when he landed badly after trying to shoot (note to Sandro: never shoot). The 23-year-old has been Spurs' first choice destroyer for most of the season, and now they will have to turn to either the transfer market for reinforcements or put their faith in Scott Parker to bounce back. Either way, it's unlikely that they'll be able to replicate the contributions of their beastly midfielder.

Although Sandro’s healed from previous injuries faster than expected, ACL tears tend to involve about nine months of recovery, and it’s doubtful whether or not the Brazilian will even get a full pre-season next year. Unhappy times at White Hart Lane.
