Real Madrid lose Pepe for up to a month after ankle surgery
The injury troubles continue for Real Madrid as defender Pepe underwent surgery on his ankle this morning that could keep him out for up to a month

The 29-year-old complained about pain in his ankle during training earlier in the week and the team’s doctors wasted little time ordering surgery for the Portuguese defender.
Madrid released a brief statement on their website today:
“Real Madrid player Pepe, after displaying problems with his right ankle, and after a medical examination, underwent surgery this morning in Oporto, with the operation carried out by Dr Van Dijk and the team at the Clinica Espregueira Mendes. The player underwent an arthroscopy on his ankle.”
Initial estimates have Pepe out for three to four weeks, depending on how fast he is able to recover from the operation. He joins a injury list that currently includes Raúl Albiol, Fábio Coentrão and Marcelo.
The injury also likely puts the breaks on any potential move for Ricardo Carvalho away from Estadio Bernabéu. The central defender has been linked with AC Milan and QPR, but will likely be retained to help cover the various holes caused by the rash of injuries to Los Blancos defenders.
