Manchester United vs. Southampton: Preview and TV schedule

New Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has his work cut out for him if he hopes to build upon his team’s solid result against Everton last week.

Manchester United will have a simple goal against Southampton today. Take advantage of Manchester City's slip-up against QPR on Tuesday. This is a match Alex Ferguson will expect his team to win and he's likely pleased that his side seems to have stopped their early season bad habit of giving up early goals.

Southampton will need to play a near perfect game in all liklihood if they hope to get a result at Old Trafford. Fans are still reeling from the unexpected sacking of Nigel Adkins, but it helped a little when the team played well in a draw at Everton last week. New head coach Mauricio Pochettino will face his toughest test yet during his short time with the Saints as he takes on Sir Alex for the first time.

The last time these two teams met, Soton had a 2-1 lead in the second half before conceding twice late in a 3-2 loss.

Manchester United injuries and suspensions

Out: Ashley Young (knee), Jonny Evans (hamstring), Darren Fletcher (illness) In doubt: None.

Southampton injuries and suspensions

Ashley Young is training but is still not ready to return. Jonny Evans hurt his hamstring and isn’t expected to play while Darren Fletcher is out for the season. For Southampton do Prado and Fonte are still recovering from knee injurues. The Saints should get a boost with the return of Adam Lallana.
