Kei Kamara loaned to Norwich City from Sporting Kansas City

Norwich City bolsters its bench by picking up one of the top scorers in MLS over the past three seasons.

Norwich City currently sits six points clear of the relegation zone, but they've only scored more goals than two other Premier League clubs. To bolster an attack that has generated just 24 league goals in 23 matches, they've signed Kei Kamara on a loan that will keep him in yellow until at least May 6. Norwich City will have an option to make the move permanent at that point.

Kamara is a 28-year-old forward, who has spent all of his professional career in MLS, most recently with Sporting Kanas City. The MLS side will receive their two-third of the “sizable” loan fee in the form of allocation dollars, which they can use to buy down the salar-cap hit of other players.

Kamara was a bit of a late-bloomer, scoring double-digit goals for the first time in 2010. But since then, he’s been among the league’s most consistent scorers, bagging 30 goals and adding 18 assists in that time.

Chances are he’s being brought in more to bolster the Canaries’ bench, to provide some depth to the Grant Holt. Kamara could also be deployed as a wide attacking player.

The loan ends just two weeks prior to the final match of the season. That will present an interesting conundrum for Norwich City, who could feasibly still be in danger of relegation at that point. Sporting KC would probably be looking to get Kamara back, though, as he’s been their leading scorer each of the past three seasons and they’ll be six weeks into their 34-match season.

This is actually the second player that Sporting KC has sent to England this offseason. Midfielder Roger Espinoza joined wigan on a free-transfer earlier this year.
