Chris Samba's spell in Russia has been a short one. The Congolese centre back, 28, spent a touch over 11 months at Anzhi Makhachkala after joining from relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers in February 2012, but apparently he liked life at the bottom of the Premier League so much that he's joined Queens Park Rangers.

Harry Redknapp comfirmed the signing in a Sky Sports interview conducted from his car early on Thursday morning, although it's unclear what his contract situation is at present. With Anton Ferdinand and Ryan Nelson both off, the squad needed another centre back in and Redknapp's long been a fan of Samba, having tried to acquire him several times while manager of Tottenham Hotspur.
With a buyout clause of £12.5 million and reported wages of £100,000 per week at Anzhi, Samba’s an enormously pricey buy for a team that could easily find itself in the Championship next year. But desperate times call for desperate measures at Loftus Road.
