Everton sign 18-year-old John Stones from Barnsley

Despite having a desperately thin roster it looks like Everton’s only business today will be the signing of a young fullback.

Everton have announced they finally wrapped up the paperwork and agreed to terms with 18-year-old right back John Stones who will join the Toffees from Barnsley.

Reports say Stones has signed a 5 and a half year deal and that Everton have paid somewhere in the region of 3 million, though the club did not disclose the fee in a statement on their website.

Stones made his debut for Barnsley in December 2011 and made 24 appearances for the Tykes. He’s also made two appearnecs for the England Under-19 national team. Stones scored his first career goal against Rochade in a League Cup match in August.
Stones made a brief statement to the club’s website saying,

“I am very excited to be joining Everton. I’ve been very impressed with everything I have seen at Finch Farm already. Now the hard work begins.”

Everton have 30 minutes left to get any other deals done though all reports say they are likely done for the evening.
