Real Betis gained a firm grip on fifth place in La Liga with a 2-1 victory over Real Zaragoza today at the Estadio La Romareda. Rubén Castro scored right before halftime and Jorge Molina netted the winner in the second half as Los Béticos also kept pressure on fourth place Malaga.

Goals from Rubén Castro and Jorge Molina led Real Betis past Zaragoza and pulled them even with Malaga in the table for the time being
Zaragoza had the lions share of chances in the first half, many of them from set pieces, but it was Betis who opened the scoring right before the halftime whistle. Castro ran on to a long ball, getting behind the Zaragoza defense and beating Roberto Gago with a low shot. The goal gives Castro 10 goals this season, enough for the team lead.
Molina put Betis up 2-0 in the 58th minute after intercepting a poor pass by Alvaro Gonzalez, racing in the box and putting the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal.
Paco Montanes pulled a goal back for Zaragoza in the 78th, but Betis was able to hold on in the final 12 minutes.
With the victory Betis pulls level with Malaga on points and only two points behind Real Madrid, at least until both those clubs play their matches this weekend.
