Occasionally, Real Madrid and similarly powerful teams play games where they switch off and collapse, leading to either upsets or very nervy finishes. That is what appeared to be happening at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Madrid conceding twice against Sevilla after going up by three goals. Then, things got silly. The game went from a blowout to a close game, then back to a blowout just as fast. Eventually, Madrid were 7-3 victors.

Gareth Bale, coming off a Clasico performance that he was (understandably) ridiculed for, got another start and was at his best. He put Madrid up early, scored another goal before the half-hour mark, then set up two goals early in the second half to put the game away after Sevilla had pulled back into the match.
After Madrid went up 3-0 in the first 32 minutes, Sevilla went on a rampage to get within one goal before the end of the half. Sergio Ramos gave away a penalty in the 38th minute that was converted by Ivan Rakitic and Carlos Bacca scored a second just two minutes later. Sevilla continued to pressure the Madrid goal heading into the break, but didn't find an equalizer, which they would go on to seriously regret.
Bale’s assist to Benzema in the 53rd minute signaled the virtual end of the game. Then he set up Ronaldo’s second to really put the game away. Rakitic kept things fun and Sevilla in with a shot at a point with a stunning goal in the 63rd minute, but it was all downhill from there for the visitors. Ronaldo sealed a hat trick, Stephane Mbia got sent off and Benzema added a second, bringing the goal tally to an even 10.
Madrid are still six points behind Barcelona, while Sevilla are dead center of the table. Don't expect much to change on that front, but at least both teams are failing to reach their goals in style at the moment.
