Southampton vs. Swansea City: Final score 2-0, Saints average in the middle, great finishing and in goal

Southampton were out-possessed and out-shot at home, but Artur Boruc had a great game in goal and they took the chances they got against Swansea.

Southampton continued their hot start to the season on Sunday, though they weren’t exactly dominant in their victory. Swansea, as they’re known to do, controlled possession at St. Mary’s and had more shots than the hosts. However, Artur Boruc was excellent in the Southampton goal and the Saints were able to take advantage of a couple of defensive errors, winning 2-0.

Adam Lallana scored the opener in the 19th minute, thanks to some lack of awareness on the parts of Chico Flores and Ben Davies. Lallana had a cross cut out, but made a diagonal run into the box after trying to pick out a teammate. Flores kept him onside, while Davies spotted the run late and ended up two steps behind the Southampton winger. Steven Davis spotted his run, played a ball into the box and Lallana finished it off.

Southampton's win was sealed in the 83rd minute off a defensive lapse from Flores and Jordi Amat. They let Jay Rodriguez get between them on a routine long ball and also let the ball bounce off the turf twice without clearing. Rodriguez took advantage of their miscommunication, controlled and finished past Michel Vorm to lock up three points for his team.

Southampton: Boruc, Fox, Fonte, Lovren, Clyne, Schneiderlin, Davis (Do Prado 89’), Wanyama, Oswaldo (Ward-Prowse 58’), Lambert (Rodriguez 68’), Lallana

Goals: Lallana (19’), Rodriguez (83’)

Swansea: Vorm, Davies, Rangel, Chico, Amat, Canas, Shelvey, Dyer, Michu, Routledge (Pozuelo 67’), Bony
